A Teenage Boy's Bedroom?

I posted a while back about painting away the baby-boy blue stars in our spare room. Since that took place we've added a few bits here and there to our new 'teenage boy's room'. Seriously, that's what it looks like. CDs, a desk, pictures of bikes...it needs some help.

First up the desk. Ben desperately wanted a desk so he could have somewhere to sit and 'write'. Write what exactly, I don't know, but what he appears to be using the desk for is a place to stand his laptop so he can lay on the sofa bed and watch horror movies he's downloaded.

Anyway, we've ended up with layout number one from this post and needed a desk that would fit the small alcove in between the built in wardrobes and the corner of the sofa bed. After some hard core hunting around we found this pine/orange wonder for £25 on Gumtree.

It fits the space perfectly, has storage in the form of drawers and isn't so deep that it infringes on the sofa bed. On the other hand it is basically orange. It needs to be sanded and painted/stained stat. It's on the list. I like the idea of a white top with a deep brown stained drawers and legs (basically what Daniel did to build his desk on Manhattan Nest), but we haven't got as far as deciding on anything yet. Either way it needs to grow up and calm the fuck down a bit.

In the excitement of actually having somewhere to put a cool desk lamp, I bought a cool desk lamp. It's a Pharmacy lamp and it was £32.98 from B&Q! It's really cool, really heavy and a dark rusted metal.

Aside from the Orange Wonder, we've also added the sofa bed to the spare room, making it a functioning place for guests to stay over and not have to sleep on a slowly deflating air bed.

It's just an Ikea PS Havet sofa bed which folds out into a king size bed. We'd been using it as a sofa in the living room the whole time we'd lived here until the holy day our proper sofa arrived from made.com. Getting it up the stairs was one of the most stressful things we have ever had to do, but along with half of the hallway ceiling we managed to get it in there.

It's looking a bit lost and sad in this photo. It needs some framed stuff above it, some shelves on the lighter wall and some kind of rug. It will happen eventually.
